In the movie Her, it tells the tale of identity as the viewer is shown the adventure of Theodore and Samantha(his OS). Samantha is a state of the art operating system that breaks boundaries between what is human and what isn't. In the movie these new intelligent OS's are replacing human companionship and is a social issue that is mentioned and expanded upon in the movie. There is some ties between that issue and modern society as well. Frequently as our technology has gotten more advanced and social media has become so engrossing, there has been a developing addiction to technology and disregard for physical human interaction.

In the movie two of the characters show a disconnection from human interaction. Theodore who is going through a divorce is unable to sign his divorce papers. He also is trying to see other women but he feels disconnected from them. The person he connects the most to in the movie is Samantha, the OS on his phone/computer. He is able to replace human interaction with Samantha creating a illusory human relationship. His situation is wide-spread throughout the people in the movie. His friend Amy as well becomes attached to her OS. This raises concerns that the need for human interaction is completely unnecessary due to the OS's intelligence.Which is evolving past the limit of human capacity. This is what causes the social conflicts mentioned earlier. There is a scene in the movie where we learn about a women who has left her husband to pursue another person's OS. The OS is able to perfectly adapt and appeal to a user in a way humans cant.

The OS becoming seemingly human poses the question what it means to be human. And I believe the movie reflexively gives its point of view when Theodore is meeting with his ex-wife. She tells him that "he scared of challenges" and because of that he prefers his laptop. What it means to be human is to be inherently flawed in some aspect. It's a cliche answer but it attacks the perfection of that of the OS's.
