Frankenstein's Son?

Perhaps the naming of Frankenstein to the monster is simply a habit of our society. It is not uncommon for us to name our children after ourselves, and to pass on a family name, meaning the monster would be akin to Dr. Frankenstein's child. It is very similar to the case in Kingdom Hearts, where the Harbinger of Darkness, Ansem, turns out to be the heartless of the real Ansem, who was a scientist who studied the darkness in peoples hearts. One can also look at the name itself, as one the possible inspirations of name comes from a location in Poland where a scandal involving gravediggers took place in 1606, so the creature personifies the incident, as it itself is created from the labors of grave-digging body parts.

  1. This is wonderful! I actually had a similar thought when writing up my blog post . It is very common for a father named Bill to name is son Bill, but call him William or Billy. So it would make sense for Frankenstein's monster to be addressed as simply Frankenstein by many for the main reason that the monster was in fact created by Frankenstein, almost as if he were his father.
