Assignment 2

As an international student, most of the western fantasies are not familiar to me, especially those from ancient times. My idea about the witchcraft is a kind of supernatural magical power that could be controlled and exercised by a small part of people. Those who can use this kind of power are called wizards or witches. Furthermore, this group of people is always considered evil and wicked and is regarded as the representation of demons. But for the contemporary figures of the witchcraft, the first thing came up to me is the famous "Harry Potter". Although there is still a distinction between good and bad wizards/witches, witchcraft in the book series is no longer a sign or symbol of Satan. In J. K. Rowling's book, the magical power used by Potter and his friends is more like a type of abilities which is just a little bit special compared to those we are used to taking in our lives.

Base on my limited knowledge of the witchcraft culture, during the years most people have already been used to the possible existence of the witch power. In other words, even if you don't really believe in the existence of witchcraft cause you have never seen it happen by yourself, you won't get too surprised when someone tells you that it does exist. It is not only about the witchcraft, but also about other things that are considered "bad" in the old days. People's tolerance to everything keeps up every day. For instance, people tend to intentionally ignore the differences in class, race and gender because this is so-called the "right" way to deal with the people and things around you. However, in my opinion, it is completely right to try to treat everyone or even everything equally while we still have to admit that people vary, things vary as well. While discussing the development of the witchcraft culture and its contemporary position status in society, we may think whether we people try too hard to keep it right, to make it a common thing to us nowadays while it used to be an evil and untouchable thing. As for me, everything makes sense if we are in the right position. I can truly understand people's fear to the mysterious things so it is not that necessary to me that we try to keep a easy heart to face it. Why not just tell the truth that we are still afraid of them if these magical people show up in the flesh some day, at least for me?
