drone/military machines

For this post I would like to talk about drones/military machines.  Drones are definitely very important contemporary figure of our time.  The drones are very different than other automatons that we have read in class.  The drones do not have any “self-intellect” programed to them, all of their actions are dictate by a human somewhere in a control room.  We have see that for many times through the readings that the robot starts of as a straight-up automaton but over time the robot involved into a more sophisticate figure that able to have “free will”.   The “free will” is the ultimate reason why the robots in RUR turned against human, the robot creator.  On the contrary, the modern day drones are not programed to operate without a human operator, just like how the robots in RUR aren’t able to duplicate themselves because they don’t have the ability to act.  But, the drones can produce both fear and powerful feeling.  For example, the person who operate the drone that is armed with fire power can feel powerful but to the ones that the drone is hunting they can feel little and hopeless.  People create drones to feel dominate and powerful and to maintain our domination over the enemies.

Humans are very violent animals.  We will do whatever it takes to prove our point and to maintain our beliefs, and that also mean to kill other human.  The advance of machines is mostly military motivated.  We race with time to create the most sophisticated machines to help us maintain our domination over others.  All the greatest inventions in history have a military/dominate relationship, the modern day drones are not exempt from this relationship.

Eventually the creations that we have created to help us stay on top of the food chain will be the main reason of our demise.  We have created weapons, tanks, war planes, drones to help us stay dominated but take a look at the today’s world.  Where in the world that weapon is not being used?  Perhaps RUR had predicted the end of man kind many years from now.  The machines didn’t really turn on us but we used those machines to turn against each other.

Nice topic! I enjoy it! I like how you contrast humans’ vs. machines and there are many military desires because it’s like in the monster topics, we always go trough anxieties or actual feeling scared but when the power of technology and machines our feeling of poses and desire comes really out us and unfortunate many people react without thinking. It’s passion and the desire to discover more high-tech control in order to control machines and humans. So I ask to myself, Does monsters and robots are the same topic? Does they behave the same with fears and anxieties? Thanks to the Cyborg Manifesto sets an interesting topic about the manifestations between robots/humans/ecosystems in order to comprehend the world and go further.
