-What’s with eyes in the film?
At first I did not notice the eyes scenes until the Roy, the leader of replicants, when he was killing someone, Roy put his fingers to that person's eyes, after the bloody scene, the next scene is the owl's eyes blinks, seems like thinking, what is going on, or an expression of replicant's cruel nature. Through the whole movies, we can tell that replicants barely blink their eyes. This is because replicants are machine. Though some replicants have motions, like Rachael. This is one of the detail to recognize machine and human. Also Pris pretend she is a toy, sitting on the table without blinking and Rick can not find her until closely look at her.
-How does the world and technology of the film tie into or relate to Haraway’s “Cyborg Manifesto?”
-And taking into consideration that we are all cyborgs, how does the replicant Rachel, as Haraway suggests, register the “fear, love, and confusion” of our contemporary cyborg culture?
According to Haraway, there will be no difference with natural life and artificial man-made machines. In the movie, the replicants are man-made machine, Rachael thinks she is human. She has motions and she can reacts like a human. And she falls in love with Rick. Rick, at the beginning, did not recognize she is not human. after he found out, it is a shock for him and also fear for him. Rick got confused about his love to Rachael, he fall in love with a machine and this machine is so human like. Rick's task is to kill all the replicants, will he also kill Rachael, the movie does not say anything about it. And also there are also some clues indicating Rick is also replicant. when Leon was fighting with Rick, leon asked Rick" how old am i" -- "four years" and then Loen said " more than you! painful to live in fear, isn't it?". this indicates Rick was produced later to Leon, and both of them live in the fear. In the later scene, Batty ask Rick again " quite an experience to live in fear, isn't it? that is what it is to be a slave".
It shows the fear of the replicants. and indicates that Rick is also a replicant.
