The Wolf of Wallstreet

Yes, money does create monsters.

I saw someone else write about Charles Ponzi and how he exploited investors to make money off of them. Another example of something similar to this is what Jordan Belfort or the Wolf of Wallstreet did with his brokers and brokerage, Stratton Oakmont. The brokers at Stratton would trick unknowable people into investing their money into stocks that were sure to fail. People were sometimes easily persuaded to buy these stocks because the brokers would praise them so highly. In the meantime, the brokers were making lots of money from the commissions of the sales. At points the money was coming in at such a large scale that Stratton needed to partake in shady practices such as laundering and fraud. After some time the firm was shut down by disciplinary actions from The National Association of Securities Dealers.

The monster Jordan Belfort was created by money. Jordan Belfort was initially a clean stockbroker. After he was laid off from his first job as a broker he soon landed another job, again, as a broker, but one at a small penny stocks firm. He soon learned of the commission that he earned from these sales and the creation starts there. He starts to make more and more money using shady techniques to make sales until he leaves to start his own firm where he teaches his brokers to use the same techniques. This continues and his firm grows to the point where it has almost 1000 employees. Along with the enormous amount of money Jordan is making from shady business practices he also practices unhealthy habits such as taking large amounts of drugs and infidelity. Jordan Belfort behaved so heinously at such a large scale that he makes a great example for how money turned someone into a monster.

  1. I would just like to start out my comment by saying that I absolutely loved the Wolf of Wallstreet, and I would love to watch it again and again. I believe what happened in the movie is true of what you are saying. He tricked people into buying into stocks that would fail, which would still end up making Jordan Belfort's company a lot of money. I feel like in the beginning Jordan was just looking for a job so that he could start make a living for himself. But, after he made money, it consumed him. He wanted to make money fast, and he did it in illegal ways. So, the money turned him into a monster. I am absolutely going to go watch this movie now by the way.

  2. How Jordan make a lot of money, i think one is his sale skill, another is his desire for money. he use his sale skill, sell himself to Wall street, then he sell the stock to customer. Sometime, a person want to have money is his desire for money. In the finance area, strong desire of having more money is how people succesesd in fiance world. what makes Jordan became a bad man, is it the money? at the beginning, he does not do drug, and nice to his wife. but after he got more money, he addicted to money and sex. and can not help himself anymore. when Jordan can not control himself to the desire of money , Jordan is on the way of real demise. In the market, the profit is the only friend for him. at the end in the court, he lost anything. Money and desire make him a monster.
