I chose to write about Godzilla for last week's assignment as he is the first image that comes to mind when I think "monster". He is the King after all. Godzilla is a representation of the fears of nuclear weapons and personifies nature's response to humanity's self destruction of Earth as Cohen writes. The nuclear metaphor is particularly strong for Japan as they had experienced two nuclear attacks less than ten years before the first Godzilla film came out. Godzilla may have lost his strengths as a metaphor but still remains an incredible monster and pop culture icon as well as a strong example of how we use monster stories to show our fears.
